Shock Waves
Shock waves are a physical treatment agent based on the transmission of a mechanical wave focused on a specific point, usually a tissue lesion, which allows us to activate mechanisms of destruction, regeneration and / or analgesia depending on the therapeutic objectives.
Pathologies such as calcaneal spurs, tendon calcifications and plantar fasciitis are some of the most frequently treated, although others such as tendinopathies and myofascial trigger points (muscle contractures) are currently being added.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound
Ultrasound is a very useful tool in the assessment of soft parts (tendon, muscle, bursa, ligament, subcutaneous cellular tissue, viscera, peripheral nerves, blood vessels…) and bone cortex with the advantage that the tissues can be assessed in real time, which allows us to perform dynamic inspections. It is one of the most popular tools in the world of physiotherapy.
This technique allows us to perform invasive procedures safely and effectively, while assessing the quality of movement of musculoskeletal structures.
Diathermy (T-Care)
Diathermy brings together different physical means capable of increasing the temperature of the tissues thanks to an electric and magnetic field. This heat increases blood flow for better circulation in the affected area and to be treated. Thus, the biological regenerative process is naturally activated to achieve pain relief. In addition, this particular heating allows to treat much deeper pains such as rheumatism and arthritis.
Diathermy provides the transfer of an energy (electric current) at a specific frequency that mobilizes intra- and extracellular ions. This causes an increase in membrane permeability and increases cellular metabolism.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is an invasive treatment in which acupuncture needles are used on myofascial trigger points (MTPs) in order to treat myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). The fact of using this type of needles should not be synonymous with confusion between dry needling and acupuncture.It is an invasive physical therapy technique because the needles penetrate the skin in search of the trigger point – the cause of myofascial pain – to press it, deactivate it and end the pain.
The needle can be considered an extension of the physiotherapist’s fingers, another palpatory technique, thanks to the “rod” effect: the needle makes it possible to appreciate the changes in the firmness of the tissues crossed.
Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT)
Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT) is a specialized system of manual therapy, based on the knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics of the locomotor system, and reinforced in practice by a system of clinical reasoning and the search for the best possible scientific evidence.
To this end, a systematic method of evaluation and treatment is carried out accordingly. BMT offers specific solutions for each tissue type: mobilizations and manipulations for joints and discs, neuromuscular techniques for myofascial tissue, and the use of therapeutic exercise to improve motor control and proprioception. Patient education is also a fundamental part of the treatment plan to empower the patient of his or her condition, apart from modulating possible yellow flags.
Neuromodulation
It is a technique based on nerve stimulation. It is invasive, safe and practically painless. We apply low frequency currents, close to the peripheral nervous system, to increase or decrease the excitability of a group of neurons. In this way we optimize neuromuscular functioning.
It is appropriate for patients suffering from pathologies of the neuro-musculoskeletal system, achieving a decrease in pain and an improvement in motor control.
